It was like a dream when I received a ticket from #womenintechfund to attend NaijaSecCon 2018 here in Lagos at The Zone Centre Gbagada. I couldn't hold back my joy as I have always wanted an avenue to attend a cyber-security conference. It is my first conference and I look forward to attending again next year.
The conference had about 200 attendees and witnessed an ethical hacking competition with 60 participants(10 teams of six members each). I was exposed to insights and discussions around malware analyses, cryptocurrency mining, USB forensics, digital forensics capabilities, programming and other different topics around security.
The conference had array of speakers both local and international, like Rotimi Akinyele the convener, Muizudeen Kusimo ( Founder and CEO of inspaya), Chidi Obum (A Digital Forensic), Oluseyi Akindeinde (CTO Digital Encode) ust to mention a few.
The morning had first two technical sessions by Muizudeen Kusimo who spoke on "Intelligent automation for continuous security using ML to make the most of vulnerability assessment exercise" and Tunde Ogunkoya who took the audience through 'Crude hacks in the oil and Gas creeks of Nigeria. He mentioned that understanding of SAP and its processes is needed to properly secure it.
After the morning break, Eyitemi Egbejule a Security Researcher, talked about "Cashing out with Git secrets". Oluseyi Akindeinde of Digital Encode also took the audience on "the perils of free WIFI", he answered some questions from the audience like "If an anonymous browsers prevent stealing of sensitive information" The answer to this question is yes.It is important to be aware of the risks of connecting to free wifi.
I was so thrilled by the 'Capture The Flag' ethical hacker competition. There I saw brilliant and focus Nigerians ready to learn new things to protect our digital future.
Finally, I met people that will help me achieve my dream of being a cyber security expert.
Thanks for this great opportunity.
